General Overview

There is a growing awareness of the susceptibility of vitamins to actually being destroyed and becoming inactive by exposure to air, and of interactions with some minerals that further deteriorate the quality of the vitamins fed as supplements.

Working from this understanding, VitaPower Limited NZ in collaborating with Massey University Research Division, New Zealand, have developed a process where vitamins can be emulsified in polyunsaturated oils so that they are protected from oxidation, where finally your horse receives them in a completely useable form.

Recent research reported in the RIRIC Publication “Feeding horses in Australia”, demonstrates that present vitamin concentration in premixed feeds will within a few months of processing be vastly different from the recommended composition on the label. By this time some vitamins will have dropped by 15 to 35%. Within a 6-month period Vitamin A & B1 will be less than half the original levels.

It is commonly known that horse owners and trainers are now supplementing their horse’s diet with a oil of some description. There are good reasons for this, among them the benefits of “heat-free” energy and the protective benefits recognized by the oils. With a number of different oils now on the market it can be difficult for horse owners to choose one from another, and many are concerned about acceptance by the horse.
